About the Legacy
The Legacy, originally titled The Ink Blot, was founded in 1990 when West Texas State University joined the Texas A&M System. Three years later, in 1993, WTSU officially became West Texas A&M University. Along with the University name change, the creative arts journal revamped its name and so The Legacy was born.
The Legacy publishes print editions four times a year. Submissions (in English or Spanish) should be sent to legacy@wtamu.edu, following the guidelines below.
Submission Guidelines
All written submissions should be sent as an attached file to legacy@wtamu.edu with the following information given in the body of the email:
- Your full name, and your name as you wish it published.
- Your major and class standing (i.e., first-year, sophomore, graduate student, etc.) if you’re a current student, your year of graduation if you’re an alum, or your department if you’re faculty or staff.
- Contact Information: email and phone number
Identify the genre of work you are submitting in the subject line. Send each genre of submission in a separate email. By submitting your work, you authorize The Legacy to use your submissions as necessary for the publishing and advertising of the journal.
Fiction, Drama and Creative Non-Fiction
Works should be double-spaced, not exceed 4,000 words, and contain no identifying information such as your name or ID number. Submissions should be fully edited for spelling, grammar, and mechanics.
Poetry
Poems should not exceed 40 lines each. Some exceptions may be made - please contact the editing staff.
Please include with your submission any formatting restrictions. For example, if line 4 should be indented by .25" and line 5 should be indented by .3645", please specify. Unless your end stops are obvious, please state where they should be. If no specifications are given, the staff will assume that no special formatting is required and will format the poem as they see fit for printing.
Art and Photography
All artwork should be 300 ppi. Submissions must be in JPG or TIFF format. Three-dimensional work should be submitted under this category.
NOTE: The Legacy retains the right to edit selections for publication for grammar, mechanics, spelling, typos, and incorrect word use.
